    Hi Alessandro,

SAP VE Viewer iPad App use *.vds files.
If you already have *.vds files, then you can load to iPad using the following methods.

    • Manually synchronize (.VDS) files via iTunes.
    • Send (.VDS) files via e-mail as attachments.
    • Host the (.VDS) files from a web server and hyper link to download and Open in VE Viewer.
    • Upload (.VDS) files to a cloud based file sharing solution such as “BOX” and then use the free box mobile application for iPad to download .VDS file to the iPad >select file > click “Cloud” icon > open in > VE Viewer

How to create VDS files? Can I use Blender to create models or characters?

      Dear Ahmed,

VDS files can be created using SAP Visual Enterprise Author. (VE Author)
VE Author can import over 80+ 2D & 3D file formats…..I shall email you the list and see if blender can output in one of those formats.

      Hi Omar,

You would be using SAP VE Author to create vrml files.
The same application can be used to create .vds files that can be used to view in SAP VE Viewer iPad App.

The application on iPad looks good.
Especially, I like the popup after clicking “i” letter of part info.
I want a feature to add links of related document such as replacement manual or troubleshooting manual in the metadata field of pop-up.

      Dear Yutaka San,

I am glad that you like the iPad viewer application……… I love it too ! 🙂
Thank you for the input and I more than agree with you on the “info” button advantage. My understanding regarding the availability of hyperlinks to additional documents in the info popup field would potentially be based on document management system as a core engine managing and ensuring the updated & latest document is made available for field / end users who would be accessing them from their mobile devices. At this early stage I guess, SAP DMS – Document Management System would enable this.

However, I dont think the a user would be able to add a hyperlink from the iPad application.
Also, I think that if these links are provided in VE Author and the documents are from local drive, then it could be troublesome to share/manage these documents along with the 3D model.

      Hope this helps.

    Hello Madan,
    Thanks for your reply.
If SAP Visual Enterprise Viewer works in browser(Safari) as plugin, we can set the link by either “absolute path” or “relative path”.
But, I am not sure how difficult it is.

    Hi Yutaka San,

    I agree with you.
There are two Viewers……….. one viewer is for desktops & laptops on which you could do the one that you are proposing.
However in the iPad viewer this cant be done as of now per my understanding because this is a standalone application and is not embedded / linked with a browser application.

Can we open RH output files in this app?

    • Madan permalink

      Hi Sameer,

SAP iPad Viewer can open only *.VDS files.
RH files cannot be opened in iPad Viewer.

    • March 12, 2013 9:10 AM

      Hi Sameer,

With the latest SAP 3D VE Author patch you can create VDS files, so make sure you’re using that. It’s the August 2012 patch.

        Hi boys, i have the version December 9 – 2011; the version August 2012 is avaible for download in Europe? where? the dealer haven’t let me this version… and i have the annual maintenance contract;

      • March 13, 2013 9:32 AM

Hi Alex, based on the date you acquired V7.x you are *probably* still on a Right Hemisphere End-User License Agreement (EULA) – you should check this with your dealer (they can also advise you how to go about moving to an SAP EULA if you’re not on one).

Yes, it’s a global release, so if you have an SAP EULA then you can access the SAP Service Marketplace to download the latest patches. This is part of the transition to SAP and standardizing processes. This may be a lot of new information to you, so I encourage you to talk to your agent and technical support team for advice tailored to your region and situation.

How can I convert WRL files to vds. My software (Framecad Detailer) creates the WRL files and normally I read them with Deep View on pc computers. Now I want to view them on a iPad

      Dear Omar,

You can use SAP 3D Visual Enterprise Author 7.0 to create a vds file from wrl file. Once you update the basic installation along with the latest patch, you would be able to fullfill your need.

        Hi Madan,

I have SAP Visual Enterprise Author and there is no save option that I can find that includes vds. How do I update to the latest patch?

I belive my former comment was placed wrong so I try again. I use AP Visual Enterprise Author and in the help I can read about exporting to vds but the file format is not in the list when I choose “save as”. So my question is if I need to update and how I do this? Or is the format hidden in some other place?

    best regards

      Hi David,

You would need to install the latest patch of VE Author software which would automatically upgrade your present installation to v7.0.5.75 or higher. Please contact your local sales rep and he would be able to provide you the latest patch installer.

Once you install the latest patch, you would see the vds file format listed in the save as – file type field.

      Warm Regards

Thank you for the info Madan. It works great!

I managed to download a patch and now I can export to vds. I have a couple of questions and suggestions. Do you know whom I can turn to with these? We are also very interested in making a branded app for a customer of ours.

    Hi David,

Happy to know that worked for you!.
From your company website, I presume you are based out of Sweden, you can contact your local SAP office / SAP Partner / contact the person from whom you purchased the software.
They should be able to help you with your queries.

    Warm Regards

      Hello AJDL,

I would recommend you to install the latest patch of VE Author 7.0 or latest version of VE Author 7.1.

Your local reseller / SAP Partner would be able to lead you to the location of software download.

Once you install the latest patch, you would see the vds file format listed in the save as – file type field.
